Andover sits just east of Wichita across the Butler County line, along US-54/400 and Andover Road. On April 26, 1991 a violent tornado tore through the town. Andover rebuilt, and over the following decades it became one of the fastest-growing suburbs in the Wichita area.
That growth shows in the housing: mostly 1990s and newer homes, larger houses with bigger electrical loads, and new subdivisions every few years. Common work here is finishing basements, adding outdoor and accent lighting, EV chargers, pool and spa power, and generators.
Andover is a short drive east on Kellogg (US-54/400) from Electri-Tech’s Wichita shop.

Work is dispatched from the Wichita shop. There is no Andover office.
Is a portable generator safe to plug into my Andover house?
Only through a proper transfer switch or interlock installed by an electrician. Never backfeed a house through a dryer outlet or a “suicide cord”. It can energize the utility lines and kill a lineworker, and it can start a fire.
Run portable generators outdoors, well away from windows and doors, because of carbon monoxide.
Can my newer Andover home handle an EV charger?
Often, yes, but it depends on your service size and existing load. Many homes from the 1990s on have 200-amp service, which usually leaves room for a 40- or 48-amp charger circuit.
An electrician should do a load calculation first. If it’s tight, a load-management device or a panel upgrade can solve it.
